In der Nacht zum Montag wurden im Prudential Center in Newark die MTV Video Awards.

Als bestes Rockvideo wurden die Red Hot Chili Peppers mit "Black Summer" ausgezeichnet. Sie setzten sich unter anderem gegen die Foo Fighters, Jack White, Muse, Shinedown und Three Days Grace durch.

In der Kategorie "Best Alternative" setzten sich "Maneskin" mit ihren Clip "I Wanna Be Your Slave" durch.

Hier waren noch Avril Lavigne ft. Blackbear, Imagine Dragons, Machine Gun Kelly ft. Willow, Panic! at the Disco, Twenty One Pilots und Willow, Avril Lavigne ft. Travis Barker nominiert.

Die VMA-Preise werden seit 1984 verliehen. Fans können online für ihre Favoriten stimmen. Als Trophäe gibt es einen "Moonman" - einen kleinen Astronauten auf dem Mond, der eine MTV-Fahne in der Hand hält.
